What Makes Albany....Albany? Find Out at the Albany Civics Academy!
An insider's look into YOUR city!
What makes Albany….Albany?
Get to Know the Ins and Outs of Albany with the Albany Civics Academy
City government touches so many facets of our everyday lives…from the streets we drive on to the parks we play in. But do you know exactly how your city operates? Or how you can contribute more to its success?
The Albany Civics Academy provides a unique and interesting perspective into the workings of the City and engages participants in a hands-on overview of City government. Participants will meet and greet with the Mayor and City Manager as well as other important decision makers. They will take an in depth tour of the Fire Department, learn how City sewers are monitored and how building codes are enforced, visit the Police Dispatch Center, discover the inner workings of KALB, Albany’s very own community access channel and learn how Albany promotes sustainability and a greener community.
Each week students visit a different City department to learn how decisions are made, where funds are allocated and gain an understanding of the organizational structure and operations that impact the quality of life in the City of Albany. We want to empower and encourage a larger number of residents to become more civically engaged in the future decisions effecting Albany’s quality of life.
Join your neighbors and discover what makes Albany such a great place to live! Take a sneak peek into last year’s Academy and let the 2017 graduating class explain what the Academy meant to each of them.
Residents who are interested in applying must submit an application online by March 22, 2018. The fee for the program is only $10.
When will the Academy take place?
