The City of Albany Recreation & Community Services Department hosts a variety of annual special events each year. Almost all of the event are free to the public and family friendly. Here are a few of the annual events we coordinate:
Dinner with Albany: (Biennial, September) The next Dinner will be in 2018. We are already looking forward to a even bigger and better event!
Dinner with Albany is an incredible community event that features a sit-down dinner on Solano Avenue to celebrate our community by sharing a meal with friends, family and neighbors under a canopy of lights. The event was originally created to celebrate the city’s centennial in 2008 and it was such a huge success it has become a biennial event. The event features live music and the dinner bell rings at 6:45 for a toast to the city.
Music in the Park: (Wednesdays, September) This concert series takes place in Memorial Park and has played host to a number of amazing bands over the years. Concerts are 6:30-8 pm and are free. Bring a picnic & blanket! Bring family! Bring friends!
Albany Local Week: (Last week of September) See how much you can do, shop, eat and play within Albany's square mile for one week. Albany Local Week is an opportunity to discover and celebrate what Albany has to offer while supporting our local businesses and organizations. Check out Local Specials being offered by Albany Businesses. Keep track of your Albany activities during the week and log your progress on the score card. The person with the top score will be honored with his or her name on the Uber Albany Local Cup, which will be put on prominent display at the Albany Community Center. Everyone who submits their score card receives a limited edition prize.
Bike About Town: (May-September) Dust off your bike (or trike or unicycle?), pump up your tires and join in on the fun on the 3rd Friday of the month. Bike About Town is a great way to meet fellow Albanians and get a little exercise while you're at it. We will meet at Wheels of Justice at 6:30pm and then depart shortly after a quick safety talk. There is a different route each ride! Family friendly!
Chinese New Year: (Near Chinese New Year) This is a youth event and is free to kids 12 and under. The event features various performances and arts and crafts.
@theCenter: (Ongoing) This program is held the last Friday of the month at the Albany Community Center. Events features a calendar of events including live music, demonstrations, lectures, events and movies. Most events are fun for ALL ages. See the current schedule.
Halloween Carnival: Calling all ghosts and ghouls! We are terrified to present the annual Halloween Carnival. Bring the whole family down to the Albany Community Center for games, activities, cookie decorating, and prizes galore! It’s sure to be a scary good time for all. All kids leave with a prize!
MLK Commit to Serve Week: (The week before MLK Day) We honor Martin Luther King and his commitment to service, community and unity by hosting the Commit to Serve Week. Stop by the Albany Community Center to make your pledge of service! The Commit to Serve Week will provide resources, contacts and ideas to assist you in making a pledge of service to your community.
Local Garden Swap: (May-October) Do you have too many cucumbers & squash? Come swap with a neighbor who has too many tomatoes & carrots! Don’t let those wonderful home grown fruits, veggies & flowers go to waste. Meet up at the Greenway and swap! This is a swap, items are not for sale!
A Green, Red, White & Blue Celebration: (July) This is Albany's 4th of July event. The event takes place on the 4th of July each year and is held in Memorial Park. The event features a pet show, diaper derby, mustache & beard contest, music, activities for the entire family and great food!
Arts and Green Festival: Sunday, May 7, 2017! This event celebrates Albany’s commitment to the environment with live youth performances and green resources.
