Working to make Albany’s 1.5 square miles a little bit better!Volunteer Corps Logo

While the City of Albany has relied for years on dedicated members of the community as volunteers for special events and the senior center, a formalized and expanded City Volunteer Program was not conceived until 2002. The Volunteer Program was designed to match qualified volunteers with various city departments in need of assistance for special projects, events and day-to-day tasks. In the program, volunteers gain hands-on experience in city government, serve their community, develop a sense of community pride, enhance the City’s programs in a cost-efficient manner, establish a sense of teamwork and meet other community members.

The City of Albany utilizes volunteers on an as-needed basis for short and long-term assignments within a variety of City departments and at special events such as the Fourth of July Celebration, Solano Stroll, Hoopla, park clean-up days or any other City department events.

We can use YOUR help at all our special events, check-out our events page for all the details.

members to get involved with the care, maintenance and beautification of their favorite neighborhood park. Park Community Discussion & Gala events provide social gatherings geared toward developing ideas for park improvement and getting residents involved with maintaining our neighborhood parks. These events also help foster a better sense of community and build social capital as neighbors meet and work with one another. Friends of Albany Park members then recruit their friends and neighbors to come together for a Clean-Up Day after the Gala.

Volunteers who attend the Clean-Up Day will receive an official Friends of Albany Parks t-shirt.
