Buchanan Street Medians
A “Bay Friendly” Landscaping project: The re-landscaping of the Buchanan Street medians provides a much improved and very “Green” welcome for one of the City’s most heavily traveled entry-ways. The project was promoted by and partially funded by the StopWaste.org, a public agency dedicated to reducing the waste stream for Alameda County. The project goals are to install a landscape that conserves resources and prevents pollution and waste and is in harmony with the local watershed. The landscape is designed to be low maintenance, drought tolerant, avoid continuous shearing and mowing, free of herbicides and chemical fertilizers. It uses careful plant selection and diversity to help control pests and sheet mulching and dense plantings to help control weeds.
