Traffic Calming Projects: The City was able to implement eight traffic calming projects thanks to Measure B and the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority for partial funding of these projects. These traffic calming projects were completed throughout the City, including raised crosswalks on Peralta and Ordway, new landscaped center islands on Santa Fe Avenue, a Traffic Circle at Ordway and Posen, sidewalk bulb-outs and islands around Marin School, and new stop signs and striping at Washington and Pomona. Buchanan Alternate Bicycle/Pedestrian Path will be built under the freeway ramps:

The Alternate Buchanan Bike/Ped Path is currently being built under the I-80/580 on-ramps thanks to a $75,000 Measure B grant from ACTIA. When completed the path will provide a much safer route for bicyclists and pedestrains between the Waterfront and Buchanan Street. Currently, bicyclists and pedestrians use a crosswalk on the I-80/580 on-ramp to close the gap between Buchanan and the Waterfront. Despite the availability of a pedestrian crossing signal, crossing in front of vehicles as they prepare for freeway speeds is dangerous. This project would definetely increase safety and therefore, it is expected that more people be encouraged to walk and bike in Albany. The project is expected to be finalized soon, weather permitting. For more information on Measure B, and to learn more about ACTIA, click here.
