The City of Albany provides both residential and commercial collection services for recycling, organics and trash through a franshise agreement with Waste Management of Alameda County. The ultimate goal of the collection program is to reach the locally adopted Alameda County goal of a 75% Diversion rate by the year 2010. To help reach this goal, the City recently implemented a collection program that includes food scraps collection within the organics cart for composting, and a commingled “all-in-one” recycling container.

Residential Recycling & Organics
Commercial Recycling & Organics: Commercial recycling is provided to customers at no extra
charge, organics food scraps collection is provided at 50% less cost than trash service
Universal Waste Collection: This includes batteries, florescent bulbs, mercury, e-waste
Household Hazardous Waste: This includes paints, cleaners, pesticides, etc.

Holiday Collection Schedule
Waste Management of Alameda County operates year round, with the exception of 3 observed holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day if any of these holidays fall on a Monday-Friday, services will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week.
If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, services will not be impacted.
