Public Works Scheduled Services

What we DO:

• Lend Block Party Barricades: Loan out barricades (2) and cones (8) to block off streets.
• Garbage/Recycling Pickup at Parks: Smaller rolling containers on M, W and F.
• Graffiti: Remove or utilize contract services for graffiti removal from City property, including signs, parks, City buildings and in public right-of-ways.
• Irrigation: Maintain irrigation along City buildings, parks and median islands, including responding to irrigation leaks or water waste.
• Litter & Debris: Respond to reports of illegal dumping on roadways, sidewalks and parks.
• Pestilence and Rodents: Retrieve small, dead rodents such as birds, rats and squirrels. We will inspect and/or report suspicious rodent activity to Alameda Co. Vector Control.
• Potholes and Street Patching: Repair potholes and minor street problems.
• Shopping Carts: Pick up carts if stores have not responded or if there are no identifying signs.
• Storm Drains: Periodic cleaning of storm drains and respond to reports of flooding. Check reports of damaged drains and hire a contractor to repair as soon as feasible.
• Street Signal Lights & Lamp Posts: We will contact CalTrans for street signal light maintenance and Alameda County Public Works for street lamp problems.
• Street Signs: Replace missing and broken street and traffic signs and poles.
• Street Striping: Paint crosswalks and street striping for small area. Hire contractors for larger striping jobs.
• Weed Abatement: Trim weeds in the vicinity of City buildings, parks, median islands and tree wells on sidewalks.

What we DON'T DO:

• Ballfield Maintenance: Mowing, watering and maintenance provided by Albany Little League Baseball, whom we will contact should problems arise.
• Graffiti Removal on private property: We do not remove graffiti from private property  such as on bus shelters, private buildings, etc.
• Garbage Bins (large) at Parks: Pick ups are on M, W and F by Waste Management.
• Litter & Debris: Caltrans maintains and picks up litter and debris from freeway onramps and offramps.
• Pestilence and Rodents: Citizens having problems with live rodents and pests on private property should contact a private vector control company. Complaints about neighbors should be reported to Alameda County Vector Control Services District, 1131 Harbor Bay Parkway, STE 166, Alameda, CA 94502. • Shopping Carts: Please call the store that owns the cart to request pick-ups.
• Sidewalks: Sidewalk hazards are inspected by the Community Development Department, (510) 528-5760 , who also contacts property owners as needed. Property owners are responsible for their own sidewalk maintenance.
• Street Signal Lights & Lamp Posts: We will report them to Alameda County, Caltrans, or B.A.R.T., but we do not maintain them directly.
• Street Sweeping:  A contracted company does the City-wide street sweeping. For more information on street sweeping days/times click here. Questions and problems can be reported to the Public Works Dept. who will contact the contractor.
• Weed Abatement: Planter boxes located in front of businesses and sidewalk median strips are maintained by associated businesses and property owners.
