Marin/Buchanan Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail

Posted Date: 5/15/2013

The Buchanan-Marin Bikeway Project started early in January and construction is expected to last through August 2013.
Construction - Bike paving
The contractor is Prism Engineering. Inc. Construction is progressing as scheduled. As of mid May, approximately 95% of the bikeway has been graded and about 75% of the bike lane alignment has been paved.

Prism is working on finishing the bikeway shoulders, installing new irrigation and landscaping.

The installation of the reclaim water pipeline that was designed to be located under the new bike lane is 100% completed and hydro tested. EBMUD has partnered with the City on the installation of this pipeline. This new installed water line is a portion of EBMUD project to supply recycled water in the future to be used on landscaping at the park, school and street medians at Buchanan Avenue.

Construction - OV sidewalk
The entire new sidewalk along the Ocean View Park and Elementary school has been completed.

Contractor is getting ready to pave the portion of the bike lane between this new sidewalk and ball field. The project calls for a pervious asphalt concrete to allow for infiltration of storm water.

Construction - USDA driveway
The project will also modify the existing USDA driveway. At this portion of the project, Prism has demolished the entire entrance of the western USDA driveway and has finished pouring 90% of the new concrete.

Construction - OV curb rampNew accessibility curb ramps have also been completed at the Ocean View Park and USDA driveways.

Update: April 19, 2013

The Buchanan Marin bikeway project is in its third month of construction. Included in this contract is the installation of an 8” diameter pipeline below the bikeway for future reclaim water supply by EBMUD. This line will be located under the bike way and will run from San Pablo to Pierce Street. Construction of the pipeline is in the final stages. The contractor is currently installing pipeline across Jackson Street. This pipeline has offsets required to go below and above existing utilities. Photo notes a typical vertical offset crossing Jackson Street for the line that must go up over an existing gas line.

Buchanan Project 2Along with the pipeline, irrigation mains are also being run throughout the project from Pierce Street to San Pablo. The new bikeway will have new irrigation and planting along the path. The asphalt will be schedule to start soon, you might note concrete sidewalk going in front of the Ocean View ball fields. The sidewalk will be installed before the asphalt bike lane.

There will be new traffic signal at Pierce Street and two replacement traffic signal poles at south west corner of San Pablo. These new traffic signal poles have been ordered and are scheduled to be delivered in July.

Buchanan Project 3The existing driveway for USDA facility is going to be relocated. Concrete was poured last month at the new location. Currently new pedestrian walkway is being installed at Ocean view Parking lot. This will be used for temporary pedestrian access from USDA driveway to Ocean view ball fields so contractor can demo and rebuild the area at the street. The Contractor looks to be on schedule to complete this project in August.
