The City of Albany Recreation & Community Services Department hosts a variety of special events each year. Almost all of the event are free to the public and family friendly. Here are a few of the annual events we coordinate:
Dinner with Albany: (Biennial, September) The next Dinner will be September 2014. Dinner with Albany is an incredible community event that features a sit-down dinner on Solano Avenue to celebrate our community by sharing a meal with friends, family and neighbors. The event was originally created to celebrate the city’s centennial in 2008 and it was such a huge success it has become a biennial event. The event features live music and the dinner bell rings at 6:45 for a toast to the city.
Music in the Park: (Wednesdays, September) This concert series takes place in Memorial Park and has played host to a number of amazing bands over the years. Concerts are 6:30-8 pm and are free. Bring a picnic & blanket! Bring family! Bring friends!
Albany Local Week: (Last week of September) See how much you can do, shop,
eat and play within Albany's square mile for one week. Albany Local Week is an opportunity to discover and celebrate what Albany has to offer while supporting our local businesses and organizations. Check out Local Specials being offered by Albany Businesses. Keep track of your Albany activities during the week and log your progress on the score card. The person with the top score will be honored with his or her name on the Uber Albany Local Cup, which will be put on prominent display at the Albany Community Center. Everyone who submits their score card receives a limited edition prize.
Bike About Town: (July-October) Dust off your bike (or trike or unicycle?), pump up your tires and join in on the fun on the 4th Friday of the month. Bike About Town is a great way to meet fellow Albanians and get a little exercise while you're at it. We will meet at Wheels of Justice at 6:30pm and then depart shortly after a quick safety talk. There is a different route each ride!
Run Around Town: (Begins in January, ongoing) This is a new program beginning January 6. The runs will begin at 8 am and runner are to meet in front of Suzette Crepe Cafe (1226 Solano Ave.) There will be a new route each week and runs are led by Richard & Eleanore.
Albany Streets & Alberrito Streets: (September) Albany and El Cerrito are teaming up to create a safe, fun, car-free place for people to get out and get active. Join us for a day of outdoor fun without having to worry about looking both ways even once. There will be games and activities in the street and you are encouraged to bring your own bike, roller skates, tennis shoes, fun games or just sit and people watch! This event is open to all Albany and El Cerrito residents and their friends and family. The more people, the more fun!
