Boomers & Beyond

The Albany Senior Center offers a number of classes for Boomers & Beyond (adults ages 50+). These classes are designed for adults ages 50+ and feature fitness, dance, hiking and discussion classes. We are looking to expand this program as the demand continues to increase, so let us know if you have an idea for a new class offering.

Who are the Baby Boomers? Here are some interesting facts about the generation:

• Estimated number of boomers: 78.2 million

• Number of people turning 60 each day: 7,918

• Number of people turning 60 each hour: 330

• Percentage of boomers who are female: 50.8%

• Estimated number of boomers who are black: 9.1 million

• Estimated number of boomers who are Hispanic: 8 million

• Proportion of Alaska's population that was part of the baby boomer generation, as of the last census: 32% Boomers also comprise more than 30 percent of the population in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. In contrast, Utah was the only state where boomers constituted less than 25 percent.

• Estimated number of baby boomers who will be living in 2030, according to projections: 57.8 million

• In 2030, boomers will be between the ages of 66 and 84. 54.9% of boomers in 2030 will be female.
