Our Mission
The Albany Police Department's mission is to provide quality police services to the citizens of the City of Albany through efficient and professional policing and by forging strong partnerships with the community. The department believes in order to accomplish our mission it is necessary to build and maintain a foundation of trust and cooperation with the public we serve. We are dedicated to providing friendly, competent, and professional police services to the public, which will allow for all citizens to fully enjoy the benefits of our unique city.

About the Department
The Albany Police Department is responsible for the preservation of public peace, enforcement of laws, protection of life and property, and providing police related services to the community. These responsibilities are accomplished through proactive police patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigation, and support services activities. The police department maintains a 24-hour Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for 911 emergency police, fire, and medical dispatch, as well as routine telecommunications services for these three professional disciplines. Go to our Gateway to Service page to view all of the services the Albany Police Department has to offer.

The department also administers the Albany Police Activities League (APAL) youth service programs and manages the School Crossing Guard Program. Authorized full and part-time staffing currently consists of 26 sworn peace officers, 11 support staff, and 6 crossing guards. A corps of volunteer reserve officers supplements the department staff.

Divisions
The Albany Police Department is comprised of two divisions-the Patrol Division and the Support Services Division. Each division is commanded by a Lieutenant, who reports directly to the
Chief of Police.
