Walk the Block

Albany is one of the most walkable cities in the country. Walking instead of driving decreases traffic and harmful emissions while increasing health and a sense of community. To maintain our walkable community, it is important to keep Albany safe for pedestrians of all mobility levels.

If you park on the sidewalk, pedestrians have to walk around your car on the street, which can result in someone getting hurt. It is illegal to stop, park, or leave standing any attended or unattended vehicle in a way that obstructs the sidewalk so that pedestrians are unable to pass through safely.

Albany police has begun enforcement of this law, even when the sidewalk is partially clear.
