City Council Meeting Summary, April 1, 2019
The following provides a summary of actions taken by the City Council as part of the regular meeting on April 1, 2019:
Annual Sugar Sweetened Beverage Tax Study Session: the Council received update and recommendations for the expenditure of proceeds from the Sugar Sweetened Beverage Tax; and provided a preliminary prioritization to be funded in FY 2020 on the Crossing Guard Program, focus on Children's health, more water bottle filling stations, Bike Safety Program, health/fitness classes and programs, and directed staff to research more information on mobile medical/dental facilities.
Ceremonial: the Council presented proclamations in honor of Rotary Club's 90th Birthday & National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
Proposed Amendments to Albany Municipal Code to Prohibit the Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products: the Council held a public hearing to received comments on the proposed Code amendments and introduced Ordinance No. 2019-04 to prohibit the sale of flavored tobacco products.
City Council Strategic Plan Update: the Council adopted, with a few minor edits, the newly formatted Strategic Plan. The newly adopted City of Albany Strategic Plan can be viewed here.
Letter of Support for ACA 1: the Council authorized the submittal of a letter of support to the California State Assembly to lower the voter threshold requirements for special taxes by a local governement for the purpose of providing funding for affordable housing and public infrastructure projects from 2/3 approval to 55% approval.
