The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council. The City Attorney's duty is to advise the City Council and staff on all matters of general and municipal law. The City Attorney provides legal counsel to the City on such matters as applications of the California Environmental Quality Act, planning and development legislation, conduct of public meetings, employee-employer relations, contracts, real property transactions, and other matters.
