The Albany Police Department has issued a statement concerning hate crimes and immigration enforcement. Please see the statement here:
In addition, the following Albany Police Department policies further define the Department's response to these matters:
- APD Policy #318 Hate Crimes (update 3/14/2018)
- APD Policy #413 Immigration Enforcement (update 11/1/2018)
2017’s Senate Bill 54, the California Values Act, effective Jan. 1, 2018, limits the involvement of state and local law enforcement agencies in federal immigration enforcement. As a result, this policy has undergone a major rewrite to comply with the California Values Act and clarify existing law. In addition, since last updated, Albany has become a sanctuary city and adopted specific regulations relating to enforcement of immigration laws by our police force. Relevant Sanctuary City mandates have been incorporated into this revision.
