To limit the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, both the 2020 Play Like a Girl Bay Area and Sporty Shorts events have been postponed. While the future of large events is still unknown, our hope is that we can put something together in one form or another this fall.
We continue to support empowering girls to play sports and will be working with our community partners to post movies, links to local sports organizations, trivia, and statistics to the Play Like a Girl Facebook page.
Play Like a Girl Bay Area 2020 - POSTPONED
Sunday, June 7
10 am - 2pm
Memorial Park, Albany
It’s no surprise that girls who play sports have better standardized test results than non-athletes. Or that female athletes go on to earn 7% higher annual wages than their non-athlete peers. And we all know sports also helps boost self-esteem. So the City of Albany is stepping up to the plate to encourage girls to kick, run, shoot, and PLAY LIKE A GIRL!!
The Play Like a Girl Bay Area event is aimed at getting girls involved in sports in a fun and supportive environment! Decathlon, the City of Albany, Albany Unified School District and organizations from Albany, Berkeley, Oakland and beyond will be offering more than TWENTY different sports to try out. Each organization will offer hands-on activities so girls ages 2-17 can really experience each sport.
At this year's event, there will also be music, demonstrations, professional athletes and fabulous raffle prizes including a FREE sports camp! Bring your sister, daughter, cousin, or neighbor - this fabulous FREE event is for all girls both young and old. There truly is no other event like it in the country.*
*not actually proven...but probable!
